What is APA Style?

APA is the American Psychological Association.  Besides being used in the field of psychology, the APA style is also frequently used in education, social sciences and nursing.

 

According to the publication manual of the APA, the APA style aims to “advance scholarship by setting sound and rigorous standards for scientific communication” (American Psychological Association, 2010, p. xiii).  Its rules govern citation and referencing, manuscript structure and content, the mechanics of style and the ethics of authorship.  Using the APA style will encourage authors to disclose essential information in their papers.  Readers will find it easier to read articles or scan them for main points and findings.
