Introduction

Citation research and impact metrics are ways to assess the performance or impact of research, by analysing how published items are cited in publications, or other forms of usage metrics (known as alternative metrics) which include web citations to digital research documents and usage-based indicators, such as views, downloads, comments, bookmarks, mentioned, and readership, from social media.
