Scite

Introduction to Scite

Scite helps track citations by showing how articles reference each other—whether they support, contradict, or mention a study. It offers AI-powered research recommendations, citation context analysis, keyword search within papers, trend tracking, and reference checking to streamline research and citation analysis.

Features

  • Smart Citations: Categorise citations as supporting, contrasting, or a simple mention.
  • Visualisation: Use interactive tools to explore how articles cite each other.
  • Dashboard: Save searches and import references from Mendeley/Zotero for evaluation and analysis.
  • Reference Check: Assess reference reliability by tracking citations and editorial notices like retractions.
  • Scite Assistant: Ask questions and refine answers based on evidence sources and citation rankings.
  • Browser Plugin: View citation statements directly when browsing articles on supported platforms.
  • Alerts: Receive email notifications when new citations are added to selected publications.
  • Scite Profiles: Track how your work is being cited and how you reference other studies.

Smart Citations provide contextual insights into cited articles, allowing researchers to determine whether the cited work supports or contradicts the current research.

The Reference Check feature on Scite helps researchers verify the accuracy and reliability of references in a manuscript.

  1. Identifies Retractions and Corrections

    • Scans references to highlight any citations that have been retracted, corrected, or flagged with editorial concerns.
  2. Analyses Citation Context

    • Shows how each cited paper has been discussed in other research—whether it has been supported, contrasted, or merely mentioned.
  3. Provides Citation Metrics

    • Displays citation counts and classification (supporting, contrasting, or mentioning) for each reference, offering deeper insight into its impact.
  4. Enhances Manuscript Integrity

    • Helps researchers ensure that they are citing credible and up-to-date sources, reducing the risk of referencing unreliable studies.

The Scite Custom Dashboard allows researchers to track and analyse citation activity for a specific set of articles. The Custom Dashboard is especially useful for researchers, institutions, and funders who need to monitor the impact of specific papers, projects, or authors.

Monitors Citation Impact

  • Tracks how selected papers are cited over time, including total citations, supporting citations, contrasting citations, and mentions.

Organizes Research Collections

  • Users can create custom groups of articles by importing from Zotero, Mendeley, a CSV file, or manually entering DOIs.

Provides Citation Context Insights

  • Displays how articles in the dashboard are discussed in other research, helping users understand their influence in the academic community.

Tracks Trends in a Research Field

  • Helps researchers stay updated on new citations and emerging discussions related to their selected papers.

Generates Reports

  • Allows users to export citation data for further analysis or reporting.

The Scite browser extension displays citation insights while reading articles online on PubMed, Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, Springer Nature, and other platforms
