Dr. Lau Wai Har was Director, Institute of Education from 1976 to 1979. She had served over 40 years in education in Singapore.
Dr. Lau, a bilingual educational psychologist, cared deeply about mother tongue instruction. Among her various achievements, she was pivotal in ensuring that teachers of the four official languages were prepared with the same standards and rigour.
