APA 7th Edition Style Guide

Correctly cite and reference resources in APA (7th Edition) Style.

Introduction

According to the publication manual of the APA (American Psychological Association), the APA citation style “provides a foundation for effective scholarly communication” (American Psychological Association, 2020, p. xvii). Its rules govern citation and referencing, manuscript structure and content, the mechanics of style, as well as the ethics of authorship.

Using the APA style will encourage authors to disclose essential information in their papers. Readers will find it easier to read articles or scan them for main points and findings. Besides being used in the field of psychology, the APA style is also frequently used in education, social sciences and nursing.

Please refer to the publication manual for comprehensive guidelines on the APA style:

  • To give credit to the original creator of an idea or concept.
  • To infuse your research with authority.
  • To make your case convincing.
  • To enable readers to locate the sources of information.
  • To deter accusations of plagiarism.
