Research Visibility: Managing Author Profiles

Benefits of a Scopus Author ID

Scopus Author ID is a unique 11-digit identifier that is automatically assigned to an author who has published at least one article in a journal that is indexed in Scopus. It groups together all the publications written by that author on the Scopus author profile.

Create a Scopus Account

Creating a personal account with Scopus allows you to:

  • Set your preferred name
  • Merge profiles (if Scopus created more than one profile for you)
  • Add and remove documents from your profile
  • Update affiliations

Step 1: Go to Scopus.

Note: If you have created a personal account in another Elsevier product, like Mendeley or ScienceDirect, you do not need to create a new account in Scopus. You may log in with your Elsevier credentials.

Step 2: Click Create account at the top right hand corner.

Step 3: Enter your email. It can be an institutional email (eg. xxx@nie.edu.sg) or a web-based email.

Step 4: Enter your name and choice of password, then click Register.

Step 5: Click Continue to Scopus.

Note: You do not need to create an account in Scopus to search the database, download pdfs, or export your results. However, if you wish to save search strategies, create alerts, save citations to folders, and manage your author profile, you will need to create a personal account.

Merge Multiple Author IDs

You may have more than one Scopus Author ID. This is likely the result of:

  • Name variants in different publications.
  • Changes in affiliation to another institution.

Step 1: Perform an author search to retrieve your author profile.

Step 2: Select the relevant profiles and click Request to merge authors.

Note: Before merging the profiles, select individual profile and click Show documents to confirm that it is the correct profile.

Step 3: Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the submission of request.

Step 4: After the request has been submitted, you will receive an acknowledgement email from Scopus. Once Scopus has done the necessary checks, the profiles will be merged into a single author profile.
